Tampa, Florida (WFLA) — Maryland police officers welcomed the hero after pushing students out of the path of a moving car outside a middle school in northeastern Maryland on Friday.

District officials said police corporal Annette Goodyear was placed on a pedestrian crossing outside the middle school when oncoming vehicles did not stop while students were crossing the street.

and video Goodyear, caught on a nearby school bus, was seen signaling the driver to stop shortly before the child began to cross. When Goodyear realized that the car wasn’t stopped, he kept the students away from harm and hit the car himself.

Dr. Jeffrey Lawson, the director of the school district, said Tweet: “This is what a hero police officer does!”

“We would like to thank Officer Annette Goodyear of the Northeastern Police Department for her heroic behavior today,” said Cecil County Public School. Facebook post.. “We are forever grateful for the selfless reaction of this hero.”

The district said Corporal Goodyear was taken to a hospital for her injury, where she was treated and released.
