Sheboygan, Wisconsin (AP) —The Americans have regained the Ryder Cup and perhaps more Sundays, sending a powerful message to Europe with a powerful performance from the youngest team in history.

Scottie Scheffler, one of the six newcomers to the Ryder Cup for Americans, defeated Jon Rahm 4-3 in the world as the scoreboard around Whistling Straits quickly filled with American red. Defeated one player.

The final blow came from Collin Morikawa, the youngest player on the team and already two major champions. He holed a 3-foot birdie putt on the 17th hole, guaranteeing at least the 141/2 points needed by Americans.

Then it was a matter of final margin.

“When I wake up this morning, I said,’I’ll get 20 points,’ because it’s the next era for the US Ryder Cup team,” Patrick Cantlay finished the undefeated week. Defeated Shane Lowry.

“We have a lot of young guys. I think they’ll be on the team for a long time, so I wanted to send a message.”

Tony Finau said this was a “big match” as Europe won nine of the last twelve on the eve of these matches.

The big one became one big rout.

Americans were young, yes, and very talented, four of the top five in the world rankings. The difference is that they finally played that way.
