Washington (AP) — Senate Democrats are considering proposing that the government use existing parole rights to temporarily keep about 7 million migrants in the United States. Said on Wednesday.

The latest Democratic proposal, following two unsuccessful previous attempts to persuade nonpartisan parliamentarians in the Senate, should allow immigration provisions to still-developing bills.
Under the 1952 law, the government has the authority to allow migrants to stay temporarily (including already in the country). The bill, which has been updated several times, has not yet affected millions of people at a time, but now allows the Secretary of Homeland Security to exercise parole authority.
The Democratic Party is considering an immigrant advocate who explained the internal plan on condition of anonymity, stating that parole would be given to US people for five years from 2011 and could be renewed for another five years. Said.
The provisions under consideration do not explicitly provide paroleed migrants with a way to become a legal permanent resident or citizen. However, about one million people with close relatives in the United States can use existing procedures to seek their status, supporters said.
The idea has been considered by Democratic leaders, but no decision has been made, said three Senate Democratic aides who explain the status of the proposal only on anonymous terms.
In a conference call with reporters Wednesday, Lorella Preli, co-representative of the Progressive Group’s Community Change Action, said the parole option was likely an option pursued by the Democratic Party.
