Sky coach family trekking from France to support the championship

The Chicago Sky is on the verge of the first WNBA championship, giving the family of general manager and head coach James Wade a chance to be there directly, even if it means traveling 4,000 miles to join. I didn’t miss it.

James Wade’s wife, Edweige Lawson Wade, said:

Lawson Wade and his two five-year-old son Jet Wade, accustomed to watching sky games from their home in France at midnight, had a front row seat in Game 3 of the WNBA Finals on Friday.

“Chicago is ready for the championship and can feel it with excitement,” Lawson Wade said. “The building is full. Everyone is behind the team.”

Since August, Wade has led the basketball family to the brink of championship without meeting his wife and son in person.

“James and I have been together for 20 years. We were both (basketball) players. It’s a long distance we know,” Lawson Wade said.

Couples use FaceTime to stay in touch and share meals together across the ocean. Lawson Wade, a professional basketball scout and consultant, has played against both Candace Parker and Diana Taurasi for six seasons at the WNBA. Diana Taurasi later played in Russia as well.

“There aren’t many guidelines for protecting Taurashi,” she said with a laugh when asked if her husband had any advice to slow down Mercury Star.

Jet’s favorite player is Courtney Vandersroot, who brought her jersey to Game 3. The young man also picked up a basketball bug from his parents.

“We play basketball every day. Our living room is a court. He loves games and knows the players,” Lawson Wade said. “This is a basketball family.”

James and Jet formed a bond not only in basketball but also in popcorn, and Skycoach ate some before each match to remind him of a movie night with his son.

“It’s a special time for only two of them,” Lawson Wade said. Every time they can be together it is special to them and they enjoy it. Jet loves his dad. Popcorn is special to them. “

The entire Skyfan base is preparing popcorn hoping for a special Sunday.
