Chicago (CBS) —Thursday is the second day of cancellation of classes at Chicago Public School, and the situation is at stake. After the Chicago Teachers Union resolved to move to distance learning, the city stated that it was not authorized to make such a move.
At the end of Thursday, CPS announced that all student classes would be canceled again on Friday, but a few schools may still be able to offer face-to-face activities.
“We have no plans to send your child to school unless your child’s principal contacts you,” CPS said.

The question of what’s waiting for next week continued until the end of Thursday.
As reported by Chris Tye of CBS2, 10 percent of teachers appeared in school on Wednesday. On Thursday, that number rose to 12 percent.
That’s not enough for the district to make meaningful progress to bring children back to class on Friday.
Meanwhile, the Chicago Public Schools has submitted an injunction to the Illinois Labor Relations Commission to the CTU.
The injunction partially stated that “the CTU has illegally instructed its members … to work remotely instead of reporting to work as instructed.” The union said it “violated the collective bargaining agreement.”
The school board said in an injunction that it “requests a cease and desist order.”
Legal action will not occur for at least 10 days. Meanwhile, the future remains questionable for CPS parents.
“And now we are in this very volatile situation,” said parent Joan Ton.
Due to the unstable COVID-19 situation last year, Tong pulled third graders away from CPS.
This year, she said, “My plan is to boycott distance learning, if it is.”

So what’s in the way of face-to-face learning? Sources told CBS2 that the threshold for distance learning to be mutually agreeable is a major issue.
CTU proposals are made by 20% of staff 2 days in a row, CPS suggests that 40% of staff go out for 3 consecutive days.
Prior to the announcement of the cancellation, some schools were trying to determine if something could be saved directly on Friday.
Here’s a message to parents of Lane Tech College Prep: “If you have a short time to enter the building for activities tomorrow, please click the form below to let us know what you can do based on your district guidance, staff availability and level of interest. To do.”
The message to the family at Whitney M. Young Magnet High School is as follows: “We cannot open a school for education or activities due to our very limited staff. We hope that this deadlock will be resolved in the near future.”
Steinmetz College Prep has also canceled Friday classes in advance.
“Tomorrow, on Friday, January 7th, classes will be canceled for our students, based on the level of staff expected at our school,” wrote a Steinmetz official. “We hope to get our students back to our school as soon as possible and will be up to date on our school plans for next week.”
However, while the situation on Friday was still suspicious, there was already a problem on Thursday. CPS soared in the past Record number of COVID cases..
In adults with CPS, a total of 271 cases returned positive from Tuesday. This is more than double the number of last peaks since the middle of last month. There were 117 cases on December 18th.
There was also a doubling of student cases from Tuesday, with 422 positive cases, but the doubling came from Monday’s test results. A total of 167 student positive cases were reported on 18 December.
The union said it had made great progress late Thursday at the negotiating table late Wednesday night and both sides returned to the table on Thursday.
