Madison, Wisconsin (AP) —Republicans in Wisconsin have submitted a bill banning abortion if a fetal heartbeat is detected. The bill is modeled after Texas law passed last year.
The law is to perform or attempt an abortion if fetal heartbeat is present, unless the life of a pregnant woman is at stake or the pregnancy may suffer from irreversible physical problems. Is prohibited.
Doctors who violate the prohibition will be subject to investigation by the State Medical Examination Board. Anyone can sue an abortion provider who violates the ban.
Democratic Governor Tony Evers will almost certainly veto the bill once it arrives at his desk.
