Chicago (Wand)-President Joe Biden urged employers to request COVID-19 vaccination as part of Thursday’s visit to Chicago.
NBC Chicago reports that the president came to O’Hare International Airport before going to Elk Grove Village. This was part of a trip originally scheduled for the previous week, but has been postponed.
Governor JB Pritzker and Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfood greeted President Biden at the airport.
At Elk Grove, the president went to the construction site where Clayco, the largest construction company in the Midwest, worked. Clayco has taken action prior to the following federal rules requiring all employers with more than 100 employees to be vaccinated with COVID-19 or face weekly virus testing.
President Biden said other companies should take the same steps and may need shots without testing options.
“Today I am calling on more employers to act. My message is to require your employees to be vaccinated,” the president said. “With vaccination, we can finally overcome this pandemic. Without vaccination, we face months of turmoil in hospitals, economics and anxieties at school, empty restaurants, and far fewer commerce. The vaccination requirement is a strict drug, unpopular with some and political with others, but it saves lives and changes the game for our country. “
